The Center for Democracy and Sustainable Development (CDSD), in collaboration with the Puntland Non-State Actors Association, launched the Local Elections Observer Training today as part of the European Union-funded Somali Election Governance Transparency & Accountability Project (SEGTAP).
During the training session, 68 local election observers were instructed on the code of conduct, data collection methods utilizing an online platform developed by CDSD, and election observation guidelines. After training completion, these observers will be deployed to oversee the early local council elections scheduled for October 25th.
This initiative represents a concerted effort to ensure transparent and accountable local elections in Puntland. By empowering trained observers with the necessary tools and knowledge, the project aims to enhance the integrity of the electoral process, promote transparency, and uphold democratic principles.
Their presence during the elections will not only help monitor proceedings but also contribute to building public trust in the electoral system. Overall, this collaborative endeavor underscores a commitment to democracy and sustainable development in Somalia, setting a positive precedent for future electoral initiatives.
